Kids Buy A House
Kids Buy A House
Kids buy a house is about parents, planning to move to another town or neighbourhood, but struggling to get their kids on board. They just don’t want to move!
In this program, parents leave their relocation plans in the hands of their children, hoping this will get them excited. Their kids (age 8 to 16) will visit three different houses in their future town or area, and they get to pick their new home. The children choose and buy a house without their parents being present.
In each Kids buy a house episode, the host takes the children of one family on a tour – without their parents – to look at houses. The host receives help from a real estate agent, who will accompany the children in an enthusiastic and professional way. The program team has a signed document from the parents, agreeing to the purchase of a house. In the new town or area, three different houses, including the surrounding neighbourhoods and prospective schools, will be assessed. The houses must comply with the parents’ budget, and meet the appropriate building requirements. The parents do not know which houses are being visited by their kids. Which house will the kids choose? That is the final question. When this is decided, the children will make an offer with the help of the estate agent.
If and when the offer is accepted, the kids will be the first to hear about it. After that, the parents will have to blindly sign the contract.
The parents will then visit all three houses, their children went to. Do they like what they see? They are encouraged to speak their mind about the houses they see. What if the kids bought a house that the parents don’t like a bit?
Finally, the parents are blindfolded as the host brings them to the final destination, the house their children just bought. It’s one of the three houses they just saw. Is this the house that the parents hoped for? Are the parents happy with their new house? And are they proud?
Skyhigh TV created and produces Kids Buy a House for SBS6.
